Swachhata Drive at SSE
Swachhata Drive at SSE
Symbiosis International University, formally adopted the Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan, on 2nd Oct 2014, marking the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, and initiated the week starting from 2nd Oct as a week of Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan in Symbiosis.
Under the Clean India Drive, Symbiosis School of Economics has initiated several cleanliness measures that it intends to sustain on a long-term basis. Students, faculty members and staff have been sensitized to the cause of cleanliness in a bid to entrench the notion of cleanliness in the fabric of the system.
i) Both holidays on the next two Saturdays, i.e. 11th and 18th Oct are canceled so that all employees come to office only to ensure that all their files are looked into and cleaned up. The workstations, classrooms, toilets, computer lab, library, storage areas and open spaces in the campus would be cleaned up over and above the routine cleaning carried out by the sanitation department.
ii) Adoption of 6 S
- Sort: Sort all the items and decide what is needed and what is not needed.
- Systematize: Put in order the needed items by deciding a place for everything and then making it a habit to put everything in its place.
- Standardize: Standardize on the system of maintaining the items.
- Sweep: Clean, discard and dispose of what is not needed.
- Segregation: Segregation of garbage.
- Sustain: Do it always. It is not a one-time activity.
All 6 S should be applied to physical as well as e-systems.
iii) Two hours would be kept aside by every member of the Institute every week towards keeping our working areas clean.
iv) The students at SSE are involved in various community programmes that motivate them towards social work and social responsibility. 2013 saw our students take part in the eco-friendly Ganpati Visarjan drive, to help prevent pollution of water bodies in and around the city. Student volunteers were present on the ghats of the city promoting awareness. 25th August 2012 saw Sabujayan (Environment Club) members come together to voluntarily clean up Symbiosis Hill (locally known as Hanuman Tekdi). Sabujayan is committed to the theme of ‘Sustainable Development’ and we decided to begin the new academic year by cleaning up a green zone in our locality. On the 18th of August 2010, the college had organized a trip to Varasgaon, approximately an hour’s drive from the city. The trip was primarily planned for the inauguration ceremony of the water purifier installed with the contributions made by students, after an initiative taken by Aman & Ravi (students of Second Year)led by their class teacher Mrs. Jasmeet Kaur.
To build up further awareness of the Swachh Bharat Mission we also plan to organize slogan writings, poster makings/ awareness rally/street plays/ essay competitions etc. in and around the campus.
